On this scorching Summer's morning, on the 11th February 2017, my amazing sister Michelle (who is quite into the genealogy side of things) found this gem: a very detailed piece about my Great Great Great Grandfather! And where did she find it? Right here on Blogger!

Many thanks to Alex Dawe for this stunningly well researched and informative post. XXX

My nana and papa (Violet and Douglas), my mother's parents, lived in Duke Street at Annerley. In fact, they lived about a half a dozen homes away from my father's parents.
When mum and dad eventually got married, they purchased a block of land at Nudgee on the north side of Brisbane, on the corner of Tufnell Road and Ellamark Street. When mum became pregnant, nana and papa moved to Nudgee too - their home in Duke Street was resumed by the government, for the construction of the South-east Freeway.
This pic (right) was taken when I was about a year old, at grandma and grandpa's place, at 37 Victoria Terrace, Annerley. The house was built in 1897 by grandma's father and still stands, even though it has been moved to one side of the original block, and the rest of the block has had another THREE replica Queenslander homes built on it (top)
I hate progress sometimes.

My grandmother and grandfather on my father's side apparently met at a shooting club, and after the appropriate courtship, went on to raise my father, who was an only child. The photo above was taken circa 1930's, and shows my grandfather Glen and grandmother Ursula in their 1922 Standard motor car, which Grandpa purchased from his employer.
Where would we be without family?
My family are all fairly normal people, although like everyone, they have their moments that cause the rest of us to go "What the...?" My eldest sister has spent a lot of time and effort delving into the history of our family, and has unearthed some fascinating insights into the life and times of the decades before we were born. The next few posts will be of some lovely old photographs of my family members from long ago...

The tedious introduction part
As I get older, I realise that parts of me are becoming less.... functional. I can live with the idea of losing the battle against gravity, I have even come to terms with the realisation that I've not done everything I want to do in this lifetime yet, but what does worry me is the insidious and implacable changes I've noticed in my recall of memories.
Forget going grey, forget the saggy bits, I'm talking about the stuff that keeps us young - our memories of all the things we've seen and done that made an impact on us, and as a result, have shaped our way of seeing the world and the way we live and interact with our fellow inhabitants.
Just hearing a certain song can take me back to a time in the past where I was a slightly different version of me. Finding a photo album means nothing gets done for days while I flip through the pages, re-acquainting myself with my past, my family, my friends and the amazing views of my existence that have been captured on a 5 x 7 piece of glossy coloured paper.
I'm not a pure geek, but I do love technology that works for me. What will follow is a series of photos and some of the reminiscences that are attached to them. There will also be the odd rant and rave, but mostly, I think I'll just pop in and try to keep the memories I have alive. I'll be adding the new stuff that happens as well, and most of those things will probably revolve around the things I like fooling around with, such as photography, classic cars, family and friends, an assortment of pets, animals, plants and natural phenomena, travelling, artworks, and just enjoying the amazing place that is Australia.
